Re: Questions about the music in Washoe County

Description

Speaking as a mature semi professional musician in Washoe County I am glad you asked the question. I have been a musician here for nearly 20 years and in my opinion the experience has changed over the years. It seems to me that the music scene in Reno/Sparks is now seeing a rebirth. I see lots of examples of people interested in playing music. Incentive-wise, pay is better but still low. There are a bunch of single and duo acts playing out weekly as well as younger people in bands playing original music. It seems there are new venues popping up. I was at Black Rabbit Mead not long ago and saw 3 original bands playing to a packed house on a Thursday. It was a great scene. As to music teachers, I can’t speak to that. There are lots of available videos that instruct. I recently found a bass player on Craigslist who meets our needs. He’s dependable etc…. So given the flakes out there, it has worked out ok so far. I love to play music. I’ll never be a rock star and that’s ok. I have figured out what works band wise and music wise in my situation and that’s satisfying. No stagnation here cuz I’m taking action. Thanks for the intelligent post, not always found on Craigslist.
