Job: Dairy Goat Milker Description: Our small, family owned goat dairy is looking for a few hard working individuals to help us during one of our busiest times of the year - milking season! Our milking season runs from March through October and consists of twice daily milkings of our extremely friendly and adorable herd of 36 Lamancha does. If you love animals and the outdoors and are looking for a job that is self-guided and dynamic, this could be the right fit for you! Part Time Paid Shifts generally range from 7-11:30 AM and 4-8:00 Commitment: April-October 2022. Potential for the right candidate to grow with the company after completing initial commitment. Requirements: The right candidate must love animals, have a positive attitude, be hard working and extremely reliable, be able to lift 75 pounds, and must be able to work both independently and as a team. Must be able to work early mornings and evenings. Must be able to handle the ups and downs of animal husbandry. We have a firm schedule and do not have the flexibility to offer time off once committed to the season. We abide by all CDC guidelines on public safety. Huge bonus points for those fully boosted against Covid-19. Experience: No experience required. Animal handling / husbandry experience preferred. Must have a good attitude and be able to work hard with demonstrated efficiency. Schedule: 4-6+/- hours shifts (mornings & evenings / weekends & holidays). Duties include: Perform milking shifts as scheduled adhering to highest standards of hygiene and sanitation Set up & break down milking parlor before and after milking Keep track of herd health and communicate updates to manager Maintain a high level of awareness to ensure herd health, personal safety, and product quality Help the goat team with miscellaneous tasks as needed Occasionally feed/care for other animals on the farm Occasional bottle-feeding of goat kids Feed goats and guardian livestock dogs Clean the milking parlor after milking About our farm: Stepladder Ranch & Creamery is a small goat dairy and creamery located up the hill from Cambria, California. We specialize in small-scale, handmade cheeses with milk from our pasture-raised herd of Lamancha goats. During our off season, we also make artisan cow's milk and mixed milk cheeses using milk exclusively from our herd and a local herd of Holsteins and Jersey cows.
