CHARLES, IL — Second Ward Alderman Rita Payleitner implored St. Charles residents to follow Illinois' mask mandates, revealing she developed a mild case of COVID-19 after dining out, according to a report by the Kane County Chronicle. Payleitner told the City Council during its Tuesday meeting that she caught the coronavirus while eating outside a local restaurant, despite going during off hours and sitting at a table that was properly spaced out, the report states. During August Payleitner said she likely contracted the virus from "unmasked conversation" with her friend, urging residents to follow a new mandate from the Illinois Department of Public Health that requires diners to wear masks during all interactions with restaurant employees.
