ST. CHARLES, IL — After initially hoping to welcome high school students back to classrooms after Labor Day, St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 is delaying those plans for at least another six weeks. District officials sent letters Friday telling parents that they are aiming to gradually welcome students back to its high schools in mid-October, coinciding with the start of the district's second quarter. Coronavirus Cases Grow Within St. Charles School District Students in the district's RISE special education program and those in the Fox Valley Career Center program at Kaneland High School have already returned to in-person instruction amid the coronavirus pandemic. Over the coming weeks, officials plan to bring back students in the district's STRIVE and RISE special education programs, as well as those in its bilingual and English Learners programs. If the district can reintroduce those students with minimal disruptions and coronavirus outbreaks, officials will look to begin bringing back high school students. Officials warned the district's plans to welcome students back are dependent upon coronavirus metrics in Kane and DuPage counties. St. Charles Police To Increase Patrols For Labor Day Weekend In the first three weeks of the new school year, District 303 officials have reported at least nine coronavirus cases among students, staff and people associated with its elementary and middle schools. The district has not disclosed whether the other cases were among students or staff. Any student or employee will be required to quarantine if they spent at least 15 minutes within 6 feet of one someone who tested positive, officials have told parents.
