CHARLES, IL — Parents and students from St. Charles District 303 high schools gathered Monday evening to demand officials reopen classrooms amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report by the Kane County Chronicle. Students at St. Charles North and St. Charles East high schools are still learning remotely after District 303 officials delayed their return to school after a spike in cases at the district's elementary and middle schools. Carol Smith, director of communications for District 303, said Wednesday that the district's decision to continue remote learning for high school students was not related to new coronavirus cases at its other schools. "One does not have anything to do with the other," Smith said. "We made the decision for high school students to begin the year in a remote setting before school even began." 6 More Weeks Of Online Classes For St. Charles High Schoolers District officials announced last week that they hope to bring back some high school students for in-person learning in the second quarter of the year, which starts in mid-October.
