ST. CHARLES, IL — Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program competition include nine students from St. Charles high schools. The city's semifinalists include three from St. Charles East High School and six from St. Charles North High School. The nationwide pool of 16,000 semifinalists, which represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
