ST. CHARLES, IL — Families in St. Charles District 303 are set to demonstrate again Monday in support of in-person learning, according to a report by the Kane County Chronicle. The rally is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the district's Administration Center on Seventh Street, the report states. Families demonstrated earlier this week outside a school board meeting at Thompson Middle School, demanding officials reopen classrooms amid the coronavirus pandemic. Coronavirus Outbreak Under Control At Kane Co. Jail: Sheriff Students at St. Charles North and St. Charles East high schools are due to learn remotely until at least mid-October. District 303 officials delayed their return to school following a spike in cases as the district's elementary and middle schools. However, District 303 communications director told Patch on Wednesday that the district's decision to continue remote learning for high school students was not related to new coronavirus cases at its other schools. "We made the decision for high school students to begin the year in a remote setting before school even began." Officials announced last week that they hope to bring back some high school students for in-person learning in the second quarter of the year, which starts in mid-October. The district planned to bring back high school students for in-person learning after Labor Day before at least nine people associated with the district's schools tested positive for the coronavirus within the first 10 days weeks of the new school year. The Kane County Chronicle reports 87 percent of families who responded to a District 303 survey said they want their students to learn in classrooms and not at home.
