Local Leaders Urge Vigilance In Stopping Coronavirus Spread

ST. CHARLES, IL – Local leaders are urging their residents to wear masks, practice social distancing and stay home for the holidays in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus. In a video shared on social media Wednesday, St. Charles Mayor Ray Rogina joined mayors from Geneva, Batavia, Elgin and South Elgin to appeal to their residents for their help in slowing the spread of the coronavirus. "We need you to listen," he said. "It's time for everyone to share the same goal." Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns said the hospitals and medical staff are overwhelmed with handling the increase in coronavirus cases in the area. "They also have to worry about heading home to their families wand worry about their health," he said. "Help us do all we can to bend the curve and keep all of us safe." Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke said encouraged his residents to wear masks and stock up on masks for the upcoming winter. Elgin Mayor Dave Kaptain and South Elgin Village President Steve Ward discussed the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on small businesses. "We have to look out for small businesses and healthcare and our vulnerable populations," Ward said. "We can do that right now if we all follow the public health guidance." Kaptain encouraged his residents to make alternative holiday plans, noting that a holiday alone might be the best choice in order to spend holidays with family next year.
