Lazarus House Gets $132K In Coronavirus Relief From Kane County

ST. CHARLES, IL — Lazarus House is set to receive about $132,000 in federal coronavirus-relief funding passed on by Kane County to support its shelter and services for people in need of housing. The Kane County Board recently approved about $3.05 million in relief for 32 nonprofits. The Tri City Health Partnership in St. Charles stands to get $15,100. Hesed House, the second-largest homeless shelter in Illinois, will receive $791,000 from the county's $93 million allocation from the federal CARES Act. That funding will help the Aurora organization winterize a makeshift shelter to house more than 100 people during the winter months. The Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva will receive $642,100. That money could provide more than $5 million in food for residents in need amid the coronavirus pandemic, with the Northern Illinois Food Bank able to procure $8 worth of groceries for every dollar it receives. In October, the organization distributed 9.7 million meals, or about 11.6 million pounds of food, to its network of more than 900 partners. The Kane County Board also allocated more than $50,000 to Aurora food pantries, with the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry getting $32,150 and the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry receiving $18,400.
