KANE COUNTY, IL — A former sergeant in the Kane County Sheriff's Office is facing a slew of felony charges after police alleged he assaulted and abused several employees at the county jail while serving as their supervisor. Russell H. Norris, 48, of Montgomery, was charged with attempted criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual abuse and six counts of official misconduct, according to Kane County court records. 6,000-Plus Coronavirus Cases In Kane County Over Past 2 Weeks Prosecutors allege Norris "made unlawful physical contact" with four jail employees on multiple occasions between January 2018 and June 2020. Some of that alleged unlawful contact was sexual in nature, prosecutors said. A Kane County jail employee filed a complaint against Norris on July 4, and Sheriff Ron Hain put Norris on administrative leave two days later, prosecutors said. Norris resigned from his position in August. Man Robbed At Gunpoint During Online Sales Meetup: Batavia Police Norris joined the sheriff's office in July 1998 and was promoted to sergeant in 2009. He turned himself Tuesday at the Kane County Sheriff's Office and was released after posting $10,000 bond, prosecutors said. He faces up to seven years in prison. Norris is due to appear in court at 9 a.m. Dec. 8.
