ST. CHARLES, IL — Authorities in St. Charles are taking no chances with drunk drivers this holiday season.
In a news release, St. Charles police department said it is participating in the Illinois "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
From Dec. 18 to Jan. 4, law enforcement officers across Illinois will be keeping an eye out for under-the-influence drivers who pose a heightened risk of injuring themselves or others in a crash.
The risk of a dangerous crash is also higher in the evening and at night, St. Charles police said. Meanwhile, the number of passengers wearing seatbelts is known to decrease.
"As 2020 comes to an end, we want to make sure everyone is safe getting to and from their destinations," police commander Rich Clark said in a statement. "Though travel is expected to be down this year, the importance of traffic safety and sober driving has not changed. We will continue to have extra officers on the streets looking for intoxicated motorists."
