ST. CHARLES, IL — A St. Charles couple is set to join forces with Colonial Cafe on Saturday to help the Salvation Army spread holiday cheer throughout the Tri-Cities area.
Jim and Mary Ann Lindquist and the restaurant are set to match up to $40,000 in local donations to Salvation Army on Saturday for "Kettle Match Day," according to a news release.

Colonial Cafe and the Lindquists also pledged to match $40,000 last year for Kettle Match Day, but this year's pledge is set to help even more, with fewer volunteers able to collect donations for the Salvation Army due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The pandemic has also fueled an increase in demand for help from nonprofits throughout the nation, including the Salvation Army. The organization provides clothes, meals and toys, as well as assistance with rent and other utilities, for people who need a helping hand.

"The Salvation Army's theme for this difficult year is 'Rescue Christmas.' And I can't think of a better way to rescue Christmas than by helping those less fortunate have a happier holiday," said Lt. Dena Smith, an officer with the organization's Tri-City Corps.
Salvation Army red kettles are set up throughout the Tri-Cities area, and digital donations can also be made. Anyone who is interested in volunteering to collect donations should visit RegisterToRing.com or call the Salvation Army Tri-City Corps at 630-377-2769.
