POWAY, CA — The city of Poway extended a citywide curfew Monday in response to continued rioting and looting throughout the San Diego region. The curfew order will be in effect from 8 p.m. Monday until 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. The city also imposed a curfew Sunday night into Monday morning. "We reiterate that the safety of our community is our number one priority," the city said in a statement. "We recognize and support every individual's First Amendment right to free speech and to voice that speech in public. We are proud of the peaceful gatherings that we have witnessed in our city so far, but that has not been the case in far too many communities across America after dark." All law enforcement, fire, medical personnel and members of the media are exempt from the curfew. People traveling to and from work, seeking emergency care, fleeing dangerous circumstances, or experiencing homelessness are also exempt, according to the city.
