Position: Golf Course Horticulturist Facility: Oshkosh Country Club, Oshkosh, Wisconsin Starting Date: ASAP Salary: $20 to $25 per hour, depending on experience Benefits: Health & Dental Insurance, vacation, golfing privileges, continuing education, uniforms. Position Description: Oshkosh Country Club is currently seeking a fulltime Golf Course Horticulturist to become a member of our enthusiastic workforce. The primary role of the Horticulturist is to assist with all responsibilities involved with the Horticultural maintenance and care of Oshkosh Country Club. This requires the ability to recognize and perform best Horticultural practices including pruning and cultivation techniques for a wide variety of plant material in a golf and country club setting. We also have a 30x50 foot greenhouse for flowers and produce that this position is responsible for. This is a full-time permanent position from approximately mid-March to mid-November. Mid-November to mid-March will be flexible hours depending on your needs. The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, and every other weekend during the growing season, evening and holiday work as deemed necessary. This position reports to the Golf Course Superintendent. Job Responsibilities: • Ability to comprehend and adhere to a landscape maintenance program established with the Superintendent that requires the understanding of basic soil and plant biology concepts. • Ability to comprehend and effectively perform assigned tasks such as trimming, pruning, dead-heading, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, push, design flower/landscape beds, and plant installations. • Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of plant identification. • Knowledge of the characteristics, growth habits and proper cultivation of a wide selection of flowering bulbs, annuals, biennials, and perennial plant materials, including both herbaceous and woody plants. • Ability to operate and maintain hand tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner. • Ability to oversee the safe and effective completion of tasks performed by assisting grounds staff individuals. • Participate in staff meeting designed to establish goals, priorities, and effective communication. • Represent Oshkosh Country Club’s interests to the public and outside organizations in a professional manner. • Perform other assigned duties as they relate to the operation and care of the golf course and greenhouse Job Requirements: Qualifications: Knowledge and skills: • Ability to effectively work independently when required with multitasking capabilities. • Possess strong attention to detail, time management, organizational, technical, and analytical skills, and has a positive attitude. • Display a willingness to learn and advance one’s skill sets. • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills that can contribute to a positive team environment. • Demonstrate a commitment to efficient, high quality work production. • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather, kneel or stand for periods of time, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds. • Must have a valid US driver’s license in good standing. Education: • High School or equivalent is required. • Bachelors or Associates degree in Horticulture or related field is strongly preferred. • Relevant education and/or work experience may be acceptable.
