PLEASANTON, CA — Seventy-one people have been sickened in a COVID-19 outbreak at Pleasanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, state data show.
That includes seven residents and an employee who have died, said spokesman Steve Black in a written statement.
" Nothing is more important than the safety and care of every person to which we are entrusted, and of our valued and committed staff who are working tirelessly despite daunting circumstances," he wrote.
Pleasanton Weekly first reported the news.
Staff have an isolated area to treated COVID-19-positive patients, Black said.
Pleasanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has been in consultation with infectious disease experts, who have been providing guidance on how staff should provide care. The facility has also been in touch with staff of hospitals and the state health department, he said.
Though 71 people at the facility in total have fallen ill throughout the course of the pandemic, there are currently 18 residents who have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to California Department of Public Health data.
At least one employee is currently ill. The state does not make publicly available the number of cases at a facility if there are between one and 11 cases.
Skilled nursing facility outbreaks have also been reported in Hayward and Pleasant Hill.
Alameda County has seen a total of 902 residents and 645 health care workers at skilled nursing facilities test positive for the coronavirus, data show.
Countywide, there have been 18,447 cases of the coronavirus — including 380 in Pleasanton — and 257 deaths linked to the virus.
