Press release from Chong Wang for PUSD: July 23, 2020 Chong Wang is excited to announce his candidacy for the PUSD school board in the November 3 election. Chong and his wife, An, have lived with their two school-aged sons in Pleasanton for six years. Chong chose Pleasanton for its safety, small-town charm and excellent schools. He has a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a master's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University. He has been working in the high-tech sector for more than 20 years in various technical and managerial positions. Chong has been very active in our school and community for many years. He is especially active with the Bond Oversight Committee and is currently a member of the Superintendent Budget Committee. He has helped his neighborhood as the Block Captain for his Neighborhood Watch since 2015. After the 2018 California fires, he organized local donations and driving to Paradise, CA with other volunteers to deliver goods and work at the local Salvation Army distribution center. He was also a road warrior for Amador Valley High School Marching Band. "I am privileged to have had opportunities to give back to the schools and community that we love," Chong said. "I want to further contribute to Pleasanton's amazing schools as a board trustee. As the father of school-aged kids, I believe I am uniquely poised to bring forward insights about school decisions from my perspective as a parent and with my experience as a technology leader. My vision is to support PUSD in continuing to be a top school district by providing high-quality educational and extracurricular programs for all students in a healthy and safe learning environment." Chong's focus as a school board member would be to maintain district health and safety, sustain fiscal soundness, and improve communication and support for teachers, parents and students.Safety is more important than ever given the ongoing pandemic. "It is a critical that we explore innovative ways of teaching while keeping teachers, students and staff in a safe environment," says Chong. "It is essential that we leverage the benefits of new technologies and tools to constantly advance our policies in adapting to this unprecedented situation. I can bring my technology experience to help create solutions. Effective communication is also a mainstay of a successful district. Having been a manager at Oracle and a consultant at Verizon among other positions, Chong worked with large teams and complex challenges to achieve team goals.
