Press release from Akron Public Schools:
March 18, 2022
Bridges Learning Center's second- and third-graders have been studying Harriet Tubman. Among the life lessons from their studies is that sometimes kindness requires courage.
The APS kindergarten-through-12th-grade school on the outskirts of downtown has a wonderful and creative music therapist. Edie Hardin-Steiner shared with us this week that, as part of the music and art therapy process, her students have created illustrated mantra murals using the song Stand Up (written by Joshuah Brian Campbell and Cynthia Erivo; performed by Cynthia Erivo) to exemplify the cause that they have the courage to stand up for.
Wednesday, March 23, Reva Golden of the Summit County Historical Society will perform her original one-woman play as Harriet Tubman for students at 9:15 a.m. Following Ms. Golden's performance, students will share their canvases before taking them home.
We are happy to have an opportunity to continue our community partnerships with the Summit County Historical Society and the GAR Foundation while exploring #bekind330 through expressive arts therapies.
