SKOKIE, IL — Fire officials said a report that a man had jumped into the North Shore Channel near the border between Skokie, Evanston and Lincolnwood prompted emergency personnel to start a water search and rescue operation before he was subsequently discovered on dry land. Skokie police and firefighters were called to the area around the Howard Street Bridge over the canal east of McCormick Boulevard around 7 p.m. The Skokie Fire Department requested assistance from other departments and rescue operations were initiated.
