PLEASANT HILL, CA — An individual was hospitalized for injuries suffered during a possible self-inflicted suicide attempt behind a school Monday night after reportedly shooting at police in Pleasant Hill, according to authorities.
Officers initially responded to a call of an armed person at a residence, but reported the individual drove off from the home as they arrived, the Pleasant Hill Police Department said.
"Officers were attempting to conduct a traffic stop when the person began shooting at the officers," the department said. "The suspect then drove to the rear of a school where he attempted suicide with the firearm."
The man was taken to a hospital, and no officers or citizens were injured from the gunfire, police said.
Officers did not provide details on the individual's medical condition or the Pleasant Hill neighborhood or school involved.
"If you heard some unusual sounds and sirens tonight, know that the situation is under control and your PHPD is here as always," the department said late Monday.
