Oaklyn Schools Average 2nd Most Bullying Incidents In NJ: Report

The Oaklyn K-9 Public School District had the second highest average of harassment, intimidation and bullying cases in New Jersey this past year, according to numbers recently released by the state. Oaklyn averaged 58.82 cases per 1,000 students, according to state data released for 2017-18. The district had a total of 21 cases reported for the year, which was 96th out of 550 school districts in the state. Only the Sussex County Technology Charter School averaged more cases, at 62.22. Patterson City had the highest number of actual reported cases, with 248. The state Department of Education has cautioned that these numbers are reported by each district, so each jurisdiction is responsible for reporting its results fairly and accurately. Students in 6th-12th grades attend the Collingswood middle and high schools. The district is one that has been discussed for possible consolidation. Collingswood had a total of five reported cases for 2017-18 (322nd in the state) and averaged 2.52 (445th overall).
