Description

COLLINGSWOOD, NJ — Collingswood High School students will stage a Peaceful Protest March and Standing on Monday. Collingswood community members will be standing with posters, signs, and artwork honoring those who lost their lives to police brutality, according to organizers. Immediately following the standing, the group will have a community unity march that ends with speakers, poetry, song, and an 8-minute, 46-second silent period honoring George Floyd. Social distancing measures will be followed. Students, families and friends will stand along Haddon Avenue beginning at Cuthbert from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., followed by the Unity March to Knight Park in front of Collingswood High School at 5 p.m. The gathering commences immediately after the march. It is one of several protests that have taken place across the country after a white Minneapolis police officer allegedly killed Floyd, a black man, by standing on his neck for more than eight minutes last week. Anyone who cannot join in person can participate in the Collingswood Lights Up The Night and light a candle or hold a sign and support that way at 6:30 p.m.
