QPR-Question, Persuade, and Refer: the 3 steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. This training will have an LGBTQ+ focus. Join us at Fort Collins Donut Company, for donuts, tea, and necessary conversations about suicide & mental health. This event & the drag show that precedes it is brought to you by the LGBTQ+ Workgroup from the Imagine Zero Suicide Coalition of Larimer County, as a collaboration between SPLASH LGBTQIA+ Youth, Connections, and the Alliance for Suicide Prevention of Larimer County. Silen Wellington & Rowdy LeMasters will be guiding us through a training to help us embrace the discomfort of having conversations about suicide, lean into the curiosity of what could make life more livable, and share local resources for those who are struggling. We know these conversations are tough, and we know how important they are, especially for the LGBTQ+ community. Let’s learn how to be human together. Silen (they/he) is a survivor of suicide attempts, a transgender queerdo, Scorpio, and peer support advocate with a passion for creating spaces where people feel safe to be their authentic selves. They currently serve as the LGBTQ+ Coordinator for the Alliance for Suicide Prevention and as a peer support facilitator for the Yarrow Collective: Peers of Larimer. Rowdy LeMasters (he/they) is a social worker who has been involved in helping others in Northern Colorado for over 30 years. He has several titles, wears many hats, but most important for this training, has "been there" as a suicide survivor. About the training... QPR is a practical and empowering course that teaches what you as an individual need to know to prevent suicide in your personal and professional life. In QPR you will learn: how to ask if someone is considering suicidehow to connect someone with resourceshow to get help for yourself the common causes of suicidal behaviorthe warning signs for suicidehow to help someone in a suicidal crisis, and moreQPR is an internationally recognized training with CEUs & certification attached to it. Need some CEUs for work? A certificate for an internship or resume? We got you covered. About the venue... Fort Collins' Donut Company is a queer, locally-owned business in Fort Collins. It shares a space with Scrumpy's Cider Bar (meaning there is alcohol at the venue), but Scrumpy's is closed on Mondays and the training itself will be a sober space.
