Come help protect Hawksbill Creek and learn about ways to improve water quality!
We will hold work days each Saturday in March of 2022. These will be fun-filled days installing live stakes (trees) along Hawksbill Creek while learning about the importance of water quality through the riparian buffers we will be creating. The day will consist of a demonstration of how to install live stakes, breaking up into groups of 2 to 6 volunteers, and planting live stakes along the Hawksbill Greenway in Luray, VA.
This is a great opportunity to meet with natural resource professionals in the area. All ages welcome, though anyone under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Please pack a lunch, water, and anything else you may need to be comfortable for the day. We may continue to work in light rain, so make sure to dress for the predicted weather. Tools, gloves, and safety equipment will be provided, but if you have a favorite pair of gloves feel free to bring them
We will be outdoors and working near the creek, so wear sturdy shoes or boots. If you have them, feel free to bring waders or muck boots as we will be working on the creek bank. We will meet at the Luray Park and Ride off of Rt. 211 at 10am each Saturday and work until 3pm, with a lunch break in the middle.
In the event of snow or heavy rain that is too hazardous to work in, we will have rain dates in April.
