Please join the Art Therapy Collective for a panel discussion with artists at A Long Walk Home and a viewing of The Black Girlhood Altar! *THIS EVENT IS FOR SAIC STUDENTS & STAFF ONLY. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND WITHOUT A VALID SAIC ID* Please join the Art Therapy Collective for a panel discussion with SAIC alumni Scheherazade Tillet, Leah Gipson, Robert Narcisco, and current first-year student Angelina Cofer. These are current artists at A Long Walk Home who will speak about their creation of The Black Girlhood Altar, currently on view at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago until March 27th. The Black Girlhood Altar is a sacred site assembled in collaboration with Black girls in Chicago for Black girls and young women who have gone missing or been murdered. ALWH artists will join the SAIC community for a discussion about their personal practice, a blend of art for social practice and art therapy. A Long Walk Home is a Black-led organization dedicated to empowering young people to end violence against girls and women. The event will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, located at 220 E Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60611, on March 22nd from 5-6:30pm free of charge. Attendees are invited to view The Black Girlhood Altar before the presentation begins. All SAIC students, alumni, and faculty are encouraged to attend. If you have any further questions, please reach out to an ATC student leader via SAIC Engage. When you enter the museum, you will check in with the front desk. Admission to the Museum of Contemporary Art is free for SAIC students and all Chicago residents on Tuesdays. After checking in, you can head up to the second floor to view The Black Girlhood Altar before the main event. If you think you will need more time to view and interact with the exhibit, you are welcome to enter the museum before 5:00PM. The panel discussion with the artists will be from 5:30-6:30pm in The Crown Family Room. After viewing the exhibit, students can enter The Crown Family Room through the atrium on the first floor, where there will be ushers to guide you to the correct space.
