Mayor Noak Dispels Rumors, Says Village is Safe Amid Protests

ROMEOVILLE, IL — As people took to the streets Sunday across the state to protest the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man who died in Minneapolis on Monday after a police officer knelt on Floyd's neck, social media was abuzz with rumors regarding businesses in Romeoville being looted and stores shutting down early. In order to dispel these rumors, Mayor John Noak released a live video assuring residents that all the businesses in Romeoville were open. "Our officers are out there protecting everyone, doing their jobs as they do every day," he said, "making sure our residents are safe and I would like to thank them and all of our staff for their service during this difficult time." Noak said he personally wanted to let people know that the village will remain vigilant throughout this time. The Romeoville Police Department told Patch that officers are monitoring the situation and currently they have no reports regarding vandalism or violence in the village.
