ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force is investigating a shooting involving an officer, said Romeoville Police Chief Ken Kroll. On Monday at 1:50 p.m., the Will County Candidate Physical Ability Test Task Force was conducting a covert operation in Romeoville in the business park at Weber Road and I-55. Kroll said CPAT had prior knowledge the subject of their investigation would be armed. As officers attempted to take the man into custody, he crashed his vehicle into vehicles of CPAT officers and drove at pedestrian officers who were attempting to arrest him, Kroll said. Police fired shots at the man, but no one was hit by gunfire. The man evaded arrest in Romeoville, but while under surveillance, he led officers into Woodridge, through Bolingbrook and ultimately crashed in Plainfield. He was arrested in Plainfield and the guns were recovered, police said. Three Plainfield police officers were injured during the course of the arrest, but did not suffer life-threatening injuries, Kroll told Patch. "There is no remaining threat to public safety concerning this incident. The Illinois State Police are conducting the investigations concerning vehicles crashes regarding this incident," he said.
