Child In Critical Condition After Being Rescued From House Fire

ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Lockport Fire Department rescued a child Thursday from a house fire in Romeoville. Lockport fire officials responded to a building fire at 7:12 p.m. at 60 Kentland Drive and saw that Romeoville police officers were actively trying to enter the residence to locate the child who was trapped in the second floor bedroom, Deputy Chief Frank J. Blaskey said in a news release. The child was found and taken to a Bolingbrook hospital in critical condition, Blaskey said. The fire was mostly contained to one room in the two-story, single-family resident, but the intense smoke made the building uninhabitable. All other occupants of the home were able to evacuate prior to the fire department's arrival. The mother of the child was evaluated on the scene, but not transported to the hospital. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Lockport and Romeoville fire investigators with assistance from the Romeoville Police Department.
