NORFOLK, VA — Two people are dead and three others injured following an early-morning shooting Saturday at a restaurant and bar in downtown Norfolk. A Virginian-Pilot reporter was among those killed, according to the newspaper. Norfolk police confirmed the shooting at Chicho's Pizza Backstage, located on the 300 block of Granby Street in downtown Norfolk. According to authorities, police were called to the bar shortly before 2 a.m. When police arrived, officers discovered multiple people had been shot. One man, later identified as 25-year-old Devon M. Harris of Portsmouth, was pronounced dead at the scene. Four others were taken to the hospital for treatment. Sierra M. Jenkins, 25, of Norfolk, died at the hospital as a result of her injuries, police said. Rory Schindel, manager at Chicho's, told the Virginian-Pilot that bartenders had announced last call for drinks and turned up the lights at 1:30 a.m. People were leaving when an argument started outside. Eventually, shots were fired, he told the newspaper. Jenkins grew up in Norfolk and graduated from Granby High School, according to the Virginian-Pilot. She earned a degree in journalism from Georgia State University in December 2019 and worked as an intern at Atlanta Magazine and CNN before joining The Pilot in December 2020. "Sierra was a bright and talented woman with so much going for her. Her passion for journalism was undeniable and our community is better because of her reporting," Kris Worrell, editor-in-chief of Virginia Media, said in a statement. "Sierra was funny and energetic and full of enthusiasm. We are absolutely heartbroken."
