WESTFIELD, NJ — In response to bias incident that occurred at Westfield's Jefferson Elementary School two weeks ago, the town hosted 'Chalk The Walk' to promote positivity and acceptance. Mayor Shelley Brindle and members of the Westfield Police Department joined elementary students and community members on Wednesday to write positive messages in chalk along the sidewalk near Jefferson Elementary — the same spot where racial slurs were etched in chalk recently. Police Chief Christopher Battiloro and School Resource Officer Nicholas Calello also participated in the chalk event.
