Press release from Jackson County Prosecutor: March 16, 2022 A Jackson County judge sentences Trever A. Young to 20 years in prison for the fatal stabbing in November 2020 of Daniel Atkinson, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today. Trever A. Young, dob: 7/2/1992, pleaded guilty to Murder 2nd Degree. A Jackson County judge on Monday sentenced Young to 20 years in prison. According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched on Nov. 5, 2020 to the 3700 block of Gardner Avenue on a reported cutting. Officers found a victim, later identified as Daniel Atkison, dob: 7/14/1985. He was suffering from apparent trauma. He later died at a hospital of his injuries. A witness provided suspect description and name and his direction on foot. Officers took the suspect into custody soon after. He had apparent blood on his clothing an a knife that appeared to be bloody. Witnesses described for police how the suspect punched or stabbed the victim in the stomach.
