PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield once again has the second-highest number of new coronavirus cases in Will County, public health data shows. According to the Will County Health Department, Plainfield reported 498 new cases during the week of Dec. 7, following Joliet with 722 cases.
Throughout November, the village has had the second-most number of weekly cases. The weekly number of cases reported were:

However, the village is showing a significant decrease in coronavirus positivity rates across all zip codes.
According to data gathered from the Illinois Department of Public Health, as of Tuesday, the south side of the village (zip code 60586) has an average 7-day rolling COVID-19 positivity rate of 14.43 percent, whereas the north side (zip code 60585) is at 10.65 percent and the central part (zip code 60544) has an 6.48 percent positivity rate.
The WCHD on Tuesday reported 47,671 coronavirus cases, an increase of 386 from Monday, and 650 reported deaths from the virus, an increase of 11 over the same period.
