PLAINFIELD, IL — A Canadian National northbound train got derailed in Plainfield Friday when its front wheels came off, Fire Chief John Stratton told Patch.
Multiple roads in the village will remain blocked due to this, the Plainfield Police Department said in a social media post. The roads that are inaccessible are:
Naperville-Plainfield Road near Michigan StreetRoute 126 (Main Street) east of Route 59Center Street south of Route 126.Eastern Avenue south of Route 126.Lockport Street near Miles Street (east of Route 59). Stratton said the fire and police departments are still investigating the matter. Residents have been asked to avoid the area as traffic congestion is expected to last for several hours while the train is removed.
Drivers are encouraged to use Renwick Road or 119th Street as alternative east-west routes. Traffic attempting to access I-55 should use the Route 30 interchange.
There are no reported injuries, Stratton said.
