Description
PETALUMA, CA — A transient is accused of trying to rob a cashier Thursday at a Petaluma grocery store, according to the Petaluma Police Department.
The incident was reported at 2:45 p.m. Thursday at Grocery Outlet, 80 E. Washington St., Petaluma police said. A caller reported that the suspect — later identified by police as Gabriel McGill, 38, a transient —assaulted a cashier and demanded money.
The caller told dispatchers McGill was in front of the store, so when officers got there they drew their weapons and ordered him to the ground.
McGill surrendered and was placed under arrest, police said.
McGill did not get any money from the store.
The cashier defended themself and was not injured in the incident, police said.
McGill, who was already on felony probation, was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Facility on suspicion of attempted robbery and violating his probation.
Jail records Friday showed McGill was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail pending a court appearance set for Monday.
