PETALUMA, CA — The Petaluma Police Department arrested a man Sunday in connection with a suspected kidnapping and domestic violence incident at the Washington Square Shopping Center.
Officers were sent at 3:09 p.m. to the shopping center on South McDowell Boulevard to investigate a report that a man physically assaulted a woman, then forced her into his car, Petaluma police Sgt. Patrick Gerke said.
The witness told police the man drove off with the victim. The witness also described the car and provided police with a license plate number, Gerke said.
Officers identified the suspect as 20-year-old Felipe Lemus-Vasquez and determined a possible address for him.
When officers found and stopped Lemus-Vasquez's car in the 1200 block of D Street, Lemus-Vasquez and the victim were still inside, police said.
Lemus-Vasquez was ultimately booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of kidnapping and domestic violence with injury; his bail was set at $100,000, Gerke said.
Lemus-Vasquez was still behind bars Monday, according to jail records.
