Wild mice dangers

Description

In NH wild mice carry some diseases that people can catch such as Leptospirosis which is found in rodent urine and one of the most common diseases spread by rats and mice in New Hampshire is the hantavirus. This disease is caused when people come into contact with rodent droppings or get bitten. Hantavirus can lead to shortness of breath, coughing and tightness in the chest. Field mice also carry deer ticks. These mice can increase our risk of catching tick carried diseases by transporting ticks into our homes. It is also not safe to feed wild mice to pet snakes as the mice carry parasites and diseases that can impact those snakes. Best bet when you humanely trap a wild mouse is to release it far from your home and away from other homes into its natural environment.
