Plein Air workshop for all skill levels. Take your vision outside and create a personal impression of the world around you. Painting outside is challenging, but there are five essential things you can do before your brush touches the paper or canvas that will help you paint with abandon. Painting outside will infuse your painting with energy and show you everything you are missing when you paint from photographs. If you take the time for these five essential steps you will be able to paint faster and catch the fleeting light. Your chances of creating a successful painting are greatly improved. In this workshop, the morning will be spent learning the five essential steps that will make painting outside easier. Students will learn about the importance of each step and practice the techniques. Once they are comfortable, they will complete a small painting. In the late afternoon, everything will be put into practice on a larger scale with a new scene. Morning session: 8:30 am - 12:30pm Break: 12:30 until 3pm Afternoon session: 3pm - 7pm (Total workshop time is 8 hours) Ability Levels: All, but should be familiar with their medium. All media covered. Outdoor sites for this workshop will include the quaint and beautiful town of Yarmouth, ME and its waterfront. Don’t be intimidated, take your vision outside this summer. $149 workshop fee does not include materials. A list of recommended supplies can be found below the instructor bio. About the instructor: Deena S. Ball is a nationally renowned landscape painter known for her innovative use of watercolor in combination with a textured ground and specialized surfaces. She received her BA in Art history and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and Tyler School of Art. Deena’s work is exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and can be found in issues of Watercolor Artist and the annual publications of the watercolor book, Splash. Materials: Your usual painting supplies - pared down if possible Sketch book - hard cover is best Colored pencils Black sharpie marker Tracing paperPencil If you have them, markers in three values of greySome way to paint outside that is portable - an easel, or a chair and your lap, folding table, etc.Some way to transport all your supplies Personal care items - sunscreen, water and bug sprayPainting Supports - You will probably complete at least one small painting in the morning and one larger one in the afternoon. If you are doing watercolor, use a block or sheets that are taped to a gator board or other support.
