I’m really sad and frustrated to have to do this but I bought this bearded dragon from a breeder at the reptile expo in August. He was meant to be a birthday present for my son. I had a dragon if my own which I purchased from Petco and after hearing so much about Petco breeding standards and health etc etc etc. we decided to go with a trusted breeder instead. Or at least what I had expected to be a trusted breeder by going to an expo. We had asked specifically for a female and the breeder sexed the juvenile and was very sure it was a female. The dragons she was selling were all decent sized juuvies not small babies so she should have known what she was doing. When we got home I realized right away it probably was a male but I was hoping that was the only issue. Unfortunately it was just the start of the problems. The very first time he pooped I knew there was something wrong. Due to covvid I had to wait 2 months for him to see a Vet and find out it was coccidia, most likely caused by him being kept in a dirty and unsanitary environment before we got him. I’ve spent over 500$ in vet bills to get him healthy and nearly 2 months of daily medicine that didn’t even work!! I was prepared to have to pay vet bills but I was not prepared for bad breeding coupled with bad veterinary practices. The vet wants us to bring in another fecal saple and pay 120$ dollars to tell us what we already know. I can’t afford to run all over town trying to find a better vet who will prescribe him the right medication. My hours have been unexpectedly cut to 3 days a week. I would like to find someone with experience who is knowledgeable and is willing and able to get him the help he needs and proper vet care. I’m willing to be flexible on the rehoming fee if I find the right fit. He will not come with his enclosure I am going to need to recover some losses.
