The youth sports clinic will include: sessions on being a successful student athlete, Academic Preparedness, Injury Prevention, Teamwork, Drug Free Decision Making, and the Importance of Physical Activity in an effort to combat Childhood Obesity. Youth will also participate in an intense skills clinic facilitated by former student-athletes who have played collegiate sports and graduated from Akron Public Schools. “The Hoop for Coop Minority Youth Sports Clinic” is to honor Kimyatta D. Cooper, a community leader who passed away unexpectedly of a massive heart attack while playing basketball in 2016 at the young age of 34.
