Description

Please join ICRI New England for an in-person dinner presentation by RDH Building Science on existing masonry buildings Please join ICRI New England for another in-person dinner presentation. Presentation Abstract: Adaptive reuse and energy retrofits are driving the need to improve the thermal performance of existing buildings. When insulation and air barriers are added to the interior, which is common for masonry structures where the exterior finish is an aesthetic and historic part of the building, it will reduce heating and drying of the masonry. In the northern climates, this can have detrimental effects due to freeze-thaw deterioration. This presentation will explore building science concepts that can be used to determine whether a building exterior is susceptible to freeze/thaw, including thermal modeling, moisture absorption and drying of masonry materials, and testing to determine relevant material properties. Presenter: Ms. Sarah Gray is a Building Science Specialist at RDH Building Science, Inc. (RDH), whose passion lies in the sensitive repair of historic buildings. Her portfolio includes an array of iconic buildings, including the Royal Ontario Museum, the Confederation Life Building, and Commerce Court North, all located in Toronto where she has worked for almost 20 years. Her primary focus is on the evaluation and exterior rehabilitation of existing buildings and their assemblies, with work in the commercial, residential, and institutional sectors. She has also worked on the design and construction review of deep energy retrofit projects for older residential towers. Event Timeline:  5:30 p.m. Networking & Cocktails 6:00 p.m. Buffet Dinner  6:30 p.m. Presentation (60 minutes) Registration is also open for tabletop vendors related to the this topic.
