Lee, and civil rights legends—is the resting place of over a dozen cemeteries whose graves reflect over two centuries of astonishingly rich history. The complex includes the National Cemetery of the Civil War, with its 4,000 Union troops, the mysterious Tomb of the Female Stranger, the graves of men who died chasing down assassin John Wilkes Booth, resting sites of U.S. ‘Colored Troops, and American Revolutionary War soldiers, as well as the graves of Confederate soldiers and diplomats. Take a fascinating stroll through an array of historic graveyards as Virginia’s lovely springtime comes into its own.
