Urban American Farmer aims to cultivate passionate participants of our local food systems, planting seeds with Austin families. A playful workshop for caregivers & kids during an AISD day-off from school. Suitable for supervised children aged 5-10 years. One adult & up to 2 kids from the same family are admitted per ticket. FARM SCHOOL SYLLABUS Cultivating Soil, Starting Seeds, Tending & Harvesting Friday, April 15, 9 AM - 12:00 PM Choose from a variety of seasonal, regionally adapted seeds. Learn about the different types of soil + compost that will help your seeds thrive. You will take your newly planted seeds home, with a plan to care for them. For kids: we'll compare seeds & roots, plant in the farm rows & explore the insect world! We'll help you identify edible plants & trees on the Rain Lily property and share a demonstration for canning & pickling with Hannah of Han-Can. Upgrade your at-home “pantry” by growing & harvesting organic herbs & vegetables. For kids: we'll plant, tend and eat food grown on-site! If you are ready to grow at home now, buy ahead on our website and pick up at the event. (Not included in ticket price.)
