Description
Landscapes of Inequality: "Liquorlining," Systemic Racism, and Public Health Equity For communities of color, opportunities to achieve health equity were and continue to be impeded by unfair policies that undermine social determinants of health. Lines drawn long ago by the federal government through “redlining” created tangible differences between neighborhoods that are still felt today. Furthermore, liquorlining – the process of overconcentrating low income and people of color neighborhoods with liquor stores – is creating conditions in which inhabitants are left to fight for health equity in a system that was never built for their benefit. Join the Alcohol Policy Panel and Dr. John C. Finn, for a presentation about the historical and modern effects that the built environment has on perpetuating health disparities in marginalized communities. Dr. Finn is Chair of the Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Anthropology at Christopher Newport University Guest speakers will also include: Nathan Fletcher, Chair, County of San Diego Board of Supervisors Luke Bergmann, Ph.D., Director, County of San Diego Behavioral Health Services We are very excited to host you for this event and we just want to make you aware of a few health and safety guidelines we want all of our guests to follow to ensure everyone feels comfortable attending our in person event. 1.As part of our pandemic precautions, we ask that all unvaccinated individuals to please wear a mask when moving around the room. 2.Seating for this event is limited in order to allow for social distancing. 3.
