PASADENA, CA — Pasadena police are warning residents to beware of sketchy private party car sales after a man was robbed at gunpoint when he met up with a seller to purchase a vehicle. According to a report by Pasadena News Now, the man thought he was getting a bargain when he met with the car's "buyer" near Forest Avenue and West Hammond Street at around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday to buy a car for $1,000. But when he arrived, the driver lured him into his car and robbed him at gunpoint.The victim lost his money, but was able to escape with his life. Police are looking for the gunman, who drove a white, four-door sedan. Lt. Pete Hettema of the Pasadena Police Department is warning residents this holiday season to be leery of great buys that are likely scams. Authorities recommend residents purchasing items from strangers using websites such as Craigslist set up the exchanges at police department lobbies, often known as safe exchange zones.
