We provide children in rural areas of underdeveloped countries with books. The need is great and you can help by attending our fun event! The founder, Roy Austin formed Libraries for Kids after returning from a safari in 5 countries in Africa in September 2018. While visiting a school in Amboseli, Kenya, someone in the tour group asked the teacher if they had a library. She said no, but they would love to have one. Result: Roy couldn’t get it out of his mind, he wanted to do something to help despite all of the obvious obstacles – books too expensive to ship or that might never arrive. Currently, we are focused on getting books to schools in rural Kenya. These communities face major daily environmental, climatic, and cultural challenges that make education difficult. The students are hungry for knowledge and willing to endure many hardships to be educated. In some regions, the communities have changed their way of life to allow children to get an education, in others, the parents pay to board their children at schools so students aren't exposed to predators since they live near parks and reserves. The parents do all they can to see that their children can go to school. Two more containers are scheduled to ship in May and five more in December which will put us halfway to our current goal of supplying books to all 6,700 rural schools in Kenya. (1.5 million children). THE LATEST NEWS: Two containers holding 92,000 books arrived in Mombasa on February 27th and have cleared Customs. These books will create approximately 500 school libraries in addition to the 1,609 school libraries we have already created impacting about 360,000 children. We have accomplished all of this in less than three years with funding from our founder and private donations. Because of Covid, we have been unable to hold any fundraisers UNTIL NOW. The need is great and a little money goes a long way to help the neglected children in rural schools without libraries.
