Pottstown School District Announces Final Reopening Plan

POTTSTOWN, PA — Pottstown School District is recommending full-time online learning for the first semester of the 2020-21 school year. The school district released details of its final reopening plan today. The plan says "no mass in-person instruction" will be offered. The district will distribute Chromebooks to all students K-12, in August. Classes will use the Google Classroom platform for all classes, by all teachers. The recommendation calls for a synchronous instruction model, which means virtual classes will be in session at scheduled times. Pottstown School District Stephen Rodriguez said, "I know there are many issues we will need to work on after—and assuming—the plan is approved. Please hold those questions until the plan has been approved, and then we will move full steam ahead!" The announcement noted that the recommendation is subject to change based on requirements from the CDC, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, or the Pennsylvania Department of Education. It also noted that school district administration is "given authority to adjust the plan as required and to report any changes to the school board of directors." The district's Virtural Learning Academy will remain an option, with the primary difference of allowing "independence of the student," the district said. Thursday's presentation will include details related to returning to school in-person, including schedules and safety protocols.
