CHATHAM, NJ - For the 12th time in as many years there will be a Turkey Trot in Chatham to kick off the holiday season. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be virtual. "The health and safety of our participants was a top priority as we prepared for the 12th Annual Chatham Turkey Trot. Given the ongoing safety and health-related issues surrounding COVID-19, we have decided to cancel the physical race and offer a virtual version of the Turkey Trot this year," said President and Founder of The Chatham Turkey Trot Curt Ritter. "We made this decision with the utmost caution and the safety of everyone." Despite the race being virtual, participants will still receive a gift bag and official T-shirt and are encouraged to "race" with their families at their respective locations, Ritter said. "Funds raised will continue to benefit the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Diabetes Research Institute, the Chatham Emergency Squad, and The Barton Center for Diabetes Education," Ritter said. "We are pleased that since 2009, The Chatham Turkey Trot has raised more than $180,000 to support these organizations."
