WAYLAND, MA — A Wayland physical therapist charged in connection to a wider insurance fraud case pleaded guilty on Friday at U.S. District Court in Boston, according to prosecutors. Anna Barenboym, 46, pleaded guilty to a mail fraud charge, and will be sentenced on July 28, prosecutors said. According to prosecutors, Gyulnara Bayryshova, 55, of Brighton, Barenboym, Slava Pride, 41, of West Roxbury and Raya Bagardi, 36, of Brighton, conspired to bill insurance companies for treatments that either didn't happen or weren't necessary. Barenboym worked at the Brighton Physical Therapy clinic in Boston between 2018 and 2020 when the fraud occurred, prosecutors said. "Barenboym and, allegedly, her co-defendants falsely billed for services purportedly rendered to patients injured in automobile accidents when the services were not actually provided," a U.S. Attorney news release said Friday. Barenboym was the first person in the group charged in the case to enter a plea.
