Wallingford Nursing Home Deaths Prompted Investigation: Report

WALLINGFORD, CT — The state Department of Public Health began investigating the Quinnipiac Valley Center nursing home in Wallingford after three residents died within a month, according to the Connecticut Mirror. Connecticut Department of Public Health Commissioner Manisha Juthani on Monday ordered the immediate transfer of the 94 residents from the Quinnipiac Valley Center due to the facility's "repeated and ongoing failure to correct serious and widespread health and safety issues." The DPH conducted a complaint investigation survey at the Quinnipiac Valley Center, which is owned by the Genesis Corporation, on Feb. 10. The survey resulted in two findings of "Immediate Jeopardy, meaning the violations are serious enough to risk imminent harm to life," officials wrote in a news release. The Connecticut Mirror reported that a 41-year-old woman died of a heart attack in February after an investigation report showed the staff failed to give her all of her prescribed medications for several days. The resident, who was admitted on Jan. 28 with a seizure disorder and "profound intellectual disabilities," was found dead in her bed on Feb. 2, according to the Mirror. The other resident deaths included a 70-year-old woman who died of COVID-19 at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Jan. 16 and a 64-year-old man who died on Jan. 24 of complications from diabetes, according to the Mirror.
