TRUMBULL, CT — A vehicle was driven all over the new Wishing Place field on Commerce Drive in Trumbull last weekend — gouging deep tire tracks into the grass — and now the Trumbull Police Department reportedly is investigating the vandalism. The field is owned by Make-a-Wish Foundation of Connecticut, and according to officials, it was brand new before the suspected vandal struck. "We were so thrilled to open our brand new Wishing Place at 56 Commerce Drive," Make-A-Wish Connecticut spokesperson Carin Buckman wrote in an email to Patch. "Unfortunately sometime Saturday evening March 12, our sports field was vandalized. The police have been contacted, they're reviewing footage and increasing their patrol. Please contact the Trumbull Police with any information about who might have done this." The organization posted a similar message seeking help on the "Trumbull Helps" Facebook page, which prompted Trumbull resident Jeff Kunkel to organize an event at 10 a.m. on March 26 to repair the field, reported Fox61. At least a couple of dozen people plan to volunteer for the event, which includes bringing two bags of topsoil, a rake, a shovel and grass seeds, according to Kunkel. For more information, visit the Trumbull Helps Facebook page, or contact Make-A-Wish Connecticut at 203-880-6971.
