TACOMA, WA — One person died in a crash Friday morning on Interstate 5 in Tacoma, state police said.
The crash happened around 7:45 a.m. Friday on the northbound lanes of the interstate, near South 38th Street, the state Department of Transportation said.
Multiple cars and commercial vehicles were involved in the wreck, a spokesman for the Washington State Patrol District 1 said. Six people were hurt, Tacoma Fire said. One was in critical condition, two were seriously hurt, and one was taken to a hospital as a precaution. Two people were treated at the scene and released.
Drivers were told to use alternate routes, as all northbound lanes were closed.

Five cars and two semi-trucks were involved in the wreck, Trooper Robert Reyer told KCPQ-TV.
